The Wrapigan

A wrap? A cardigan? Just wrap up again!
in Stitch Poet's Wrapigan!

Peruvian Tweed (distributed by Joseph Galler)
100% Peruvian Alpaca
3 skeins (~1800 yards)
US #7 (24", 16" and 12" or set of dpns)
gauge: 20 sts / 28 rows = 4x4" swatch

The Peruvian Tweed has proven to be the best yarn selection for this garment. If you must substitute yarns, keep in mind that it is meant to be drapey and not a chunky densely knit garment.  The Peruvian Tweed is available at many of the yarn shops that carry Stitch Poet and we've found nothing that works better.  Each skein is 600 yards, which is a delightful when knitting a large project like this!

  5. Thank you Kimberly! Knit Picky Yarns just reordered this pattern, so I know they have some, but it is not showing up on the Stitch Poet pattern page on their website. Just email them and I know they will take care of you!! They also have the yarn for this project! The Peruvian Tweed can NOT be matched and it is 600 yards per skein!! If you "spit splice" there will be NO ENDS! Here's their email: knitpicky@bellsouth.net

  6. I love the Wrapigan! What would your advice be if one wanted to make this for a larger plus size woman? Is it possible?

    Thanks so much,

  7. Hi Wanda, I've been asked that before. I would increase the length of the wrap portions at the beginning and the end and increase the number of repeated short row sections around the shoulder between the sleeves. the beauty of it is that you can try it on before you bind off for your second sleeve. The sleeves are pretty full, so there shouldn't be a need to increase there. The actual sample is currently at Knit Picky in Winston Salem if you'd like to call for more measurements, but keep in mind that the sample has made its rounds and has "grown" over the years of travel. If you are using the Peruvian Tweed, buy 4 skeins instead of the dictated 3. It is still a bargain in that particular yarn. You get so much for the $ and at 600 yards per skein, you don't have to weave in lots of ends...If you "spit splice," which this weight in alpaca does perfectly, you won't weave at all except at beginning and end of your sleeves! Let me know if this helps at all!! Happy Stitchin'

  8. Hi there, I stumbled across your in tumblr then wandered over this way as I love knitting [I'm not that good at it yet - scarves keep me busy]. I just LOVE this wrap/cardi thingy! Given I'm in Australia - is there any way I can get a hold of the pattern? My mum might be able to help me knit this as I've been looking for something a bit challenging. It is GORGEOUS!!

    Cheers

  10. Hi there,
I was just wondering which color of peruvian tweed you used? It's beautiful! I've been trying to get this pattern, but I live in western Canada and the place I called said that they would call me when they had some more patterns in stock, but I didn't receive a call unfortunately. I guess that's one downside of not using PDF patterns. You have lovely items!
